Blog Project 2 (Novocain)
I chose the movie Novocain partly because it it's the newest movie I've seen, and also because how good the movie was. The movies protagonist was a middle class, shy introvert who we find out does not feel pain to due to a genetic disorder he's had from birth. During the movie the main character Nathan Caine played by actor Jack Quaid, falls in love with a coworker at the bank they work at together. The next day after a romantic first date while at work masked men disguised as Santa clause enter the bank and attempt to rob it. During the robbery Nathans new love gets kidnapped by the robbers and he makes a decision to stop being the shy, unseen, mediocre man, and use his "disorder" to his advantage and save the newfound love of his life.
Jack Quaid the main character born in Los Angeles in 1992is the son of actress Meg Ryan and actor Dennis Quaid. You may have seen Jack in movies like The Hunger Games, Scream (2022), Spider Man (across the spider-verse) and more. According to Rotten Tomatoes The movie Novocain has grossed 38.2 in ticket sales worldwide, debuting in the United States in its opening weekend grossed 19.9 million topping the box office for that weekend.
Compared to Quaid's previous roles in movies such as "The Boys" and "Scream" his role in Novocain showcases his ability and range. The films action sequences ad Quaid's performance has been praised for their creativity and execution setting it apart from other action movies, and previous roles. Novocain is a standout film for Jack Quaid, demonstrating his versatility and the potential for success n action-comedy.
In my opinion the movie Novocain is important to the culture due to its thought-provoking story line, the protagonist dealing with life with his condition ads a layer of complexity and personal struggles and relationships. They way the movie advertised Quaid's role, I'd say the target audience would be fans of his previous work, along with those who enjoy action-comedy films. As far as stereotypes go, id say it captures the introverted man in today's society. Shy and afraid to come out of his shell and approach a beautiful woman.
The movie is the best piece of work to date by Quaid in my opinion of course, with supporting roles done prior, this production has been his breakout role. the movie is Whitty, funny, smart, funny and definitely memorable. Professional critics have a mixed view. with an 80% fresh rating form Rotton Tomatoes based on 94 reviews. However, some reviewers feel the ending was off calling it sluggish without giving too much information away on the film lol. overall, the movie has done well and scored well with a score of B on Cinema Score with a 84 percent positive rating.
One way actor Jack Quaid uses social media to connect with the audience is Reddit. I noticed a post form Quaid wanting feedback and interaction about the new film and I thought that was interesting as I do not see that often form actors. My fiancé watched the film with me, and she loved it as well. life is full of stress and drama and people like me use films and entertainment to kind of pause and take a break. The film did its job, and even only for 90min the stress of the world went away, and we lived in a action-comedy moment. One thing I've learned while doing this assignment was who his parents were. I wasn't aware that he came from acting legends if you will.
